MAPA's HISTORY |
A cohesive community, proud of it's cultural diversity.
Since 1979, when the organisation was first established, MAPA has seen a whole host of groups access the building and this has included work with: The Black Health Forum, The PHAB disability group, PATWAH Community Arts, our open access Youth Provision and the Eastern European Community Group. We have worked with generations of families over the past 40 years to provide an open and inclusive centre. Community needs have also changed throughout the years, meaning our work has to often adopt new working practices to tackle vital social issues, which often include inter racial tensions and high levels of poverty and detachment.

OUR MISSION
The primary function of MAPA, Cultural Arts Centre, is to promote opportunities
that enrich and enhance the personal and social development of young people and
the community. Using creativity as a tool to empower, engage and include, our work
aims to bring about change, encourage positive activity and develop vital life skills.
MAPA believes that the Arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstances
and that participating in the Arts can positively enrich and enhance lives, while providing
a voice for those often voiceless, bridging the gap of exclusion.
MAPA and it's partners aim to continue to develop exciting and ground breaking
pieces of work that enhances community cohesion and the existing opportunities
available to young people and the community.
